“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Yes!! This quote is so perfect for me. I always say, “if I had more money”, I could do so much more to help! But I need (we all need), to remember that we don’t need to have money to volunteer time, we don’t need money to help raise money to help others, we don’t need money to just give someone a hug, or a compliment, and we certainly don’t need money to be kind.
It’s easy to get caught up in the whole “money” thing. So this year, I will be doing many small things that will still make a difference in my community and hopefully help others.
When I started this blog, I said I wanted to get my stories out there and I wanted to figure out a way to make a difference. The first thing I am planning as a way to help and give back, are “care packages”, if you will, for parents of children in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Being a NICU parent myself, 11 years ago, there are so many thoughts going through your mind, you can barely remember to breath, let alone remember what to bring with you for your hours away from home, waiting to hold your baby in a hospital. I thought really hard about what might have been nice to have around while we were visiting our baby boy, and I’ve found some items that would have been perfect to have on hand, in my car or in my purse that would have been helpful during those stressful times. That is my goal in giving back, in small ways to start, and maybe even bigger in the future.
So very well said, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr! You were a kind and wise man! Thank you!
If you were fortunate enough to have the day off to celebrate, I hope it was a great day!
